Peru will take on Denmark at Mordovia Arena in a Group C matchup on Saturday, June 16, 2018. The opening line for this World Cup matchup has Peru at +290 and Denmark at +104. The total opened at 2.25. In one of the toughest matchups to predict in the first set of matches, the possession-focused Peruvians will take on the more direct style of the Danish. Both teams beat the odds to make it this far and will be looking to get off to a flying start in what should be a competitive group. France and Denmark are the favorites to make it out of the group, but don't count out Peru.

Peru

After nearly 40 years of watching World Cups from their sofas, Peru is back with a talented squad. They impressed in the qualifications and have continued their hot ways by winning four consecutive friendlies, including a decisive 2-0 win over Croatia. They're known for playing quick, short passes all the way up the pitch and they have a couple of wing backs who love to push up and help their attackers. Whether they go far or not, this is a team that will provide entertaining football. After their impressive form over the last year or so, Peru was able to move up to the 11th spot in FIFA's rankings. Ricardo Gareca has done an excellent job of injecting a style that seems to work against just about all of his team's opponents.

Paolo Guerrero

Peruvian fans feared that Guerrero would miss the World Cup due to a doping ban, but the 34-year-old will be there captaining his side. He has 34 goals in 87 national team games and showed that he still had it during qualifying by putting six into the back of the net.

Pedro Gallese

Gallese isn't a household name right now, but the keeper has great leadership skills and his confidence is very high after a number of shutouts on international duty.

Denmark

After missing the last two World Cups, Denmark is back with a good mix of youth and skilled veterans. They didn't lose any of their qualifying games and they had some impressive results, including a dominating 4-0 result over Poland. They've only picked up one win in six games since then, but their aggressive offensive play has proven to be tough to match up against for most of their opponents. Denmark comes into the World Cup ranked just behind Peru at number 12. Coach Age Hareide has been with the Danish national side for five years now, and that stability could be huge in this tournament considering how many first or second-year coaches there are.

Christian Eriksen

This is an easy pick since Eriksen is one of the only superstars in this group. The 26-year-old wizard is mostly known for his creativity, but he stepped it up to a new level during qualifications by scoring 11 goals in 12 games. It's an understatement to say that Denmark relies heavily on Erickson's performances.

Andreas Christensen

Christensen quickly moved up the pecking order at Chelsea this past season and looks like he's going to become one of the top defenders in the world. At just 22 years of age, he is already showing great leadership skills and will be a staple in the middle of Denmark's defense for years to come.
