Germany will play at Luzhniki Stadium when they take on Mexico on Sunday, June 17, 2018 in a Group F matchup. The opening line for this game has Germany at -182 and Mexico at +550. The total has been set at 2.5. In this first-round fixture, we'll get to see the defending champ Germany take on a young and hungry Mexico side. Germany is still as good as they were four years ago, while Mexico consistently gives top teams headaches in big competitions. Germany will be big favorites going into this game, but Mexico will make them work for it. Regardless of the outcome, these are the two teams that should make it through to the round of 16.

Germany

Can they repeat? Most people think they can and they certainly have the talent to do it. After losing in the semis at the Euros a couple years ago, the Germans haven't lost a single game since. Insanely, they were able to win all ten of their games in the qualification round and they averaged nearly 4.5 goals per game. There are other talented teams in Russia this year, but Germany probably has the deepest squad of them all. The Germans, unsurprisingly, are the top-ranked nation in the FIFA rankings. Coach Joachim Low, who is considered by many to be the top international coach in the world, has been with the team since 2006 and just recently extended his contract until 2022.

Toni Kroos

Kroos is a superstar, but he's probably the least known of the world's superstars. That's because he's willing to sit back and let others stand in the lime light while he just consistently makes the great passes and rips some nasty shots from distance. You might not notice him much, but you can definitely assume that he is part of just about everything positive that Germany does.

Mats Hummels

The offensive players will get most of the praise throughout the World Cup, but it's players like Hummels that help make a great team a championship-winning team. He's the top defender on a team that has a plethora of great defenders.

Mexico

Mexico is usually an entertaining team to watch because they have talent all over the pitch and they take it to opponents, regardless of their ranking. They easily made it through the qualifying round with decisive win after decisive win, and some people think this is their best chance to make it past the round of 16. They may not be able to beat Germany, but they should be able to handle South Korea and Sweden. Coming into this tournament, Mexico is ranked 15th in the world according to FIFA's rankings. They are coached by Juan Carlos Osorio, who took over in 2015 and has led them to a solid 66 percent win percentage.

Javier Hernandez

Chicharito never really lived up to the hype for the clubs he's played for, but he's been a consistent force for Mexico. The 30-year-old has scored 49 goals in 101 games for his country and is regarded as the main reason for the team's success over the last decade.

Guillermo Ochoa

Mexico's main weakness is their defense, so Ochoa is going to need to step up big time, especially against top competition like Germany. He was one of the top keepers at the 2014 World Cup and fans will be hoping he can replicate that form.
