Australia will be going up against Peru in the final matchup in Group C and what will be the first ever meeting between these two nations. Both teams have been taking a more conservative approach the last couple of months, so this match could very easily end up 1-0 for one side or even a 0-0 draw. Expect a bit more risk-taking if both teams are still fighting for a spot in the round of 16. Peru are the favorites in this game, but Australia showed in that 2-1 loss versus France that they can hang with anyone from this group.

Australia

Chances are head coach Bert van Marwijk will stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation in this game after it worked so well leading up to the World Cup. This means the attackers won't have much support when pushing forward, but it also means that Peru will be limited in their open-field attempts. The key for Australia will be to get the ball to the feet of their most creative players when they are in the final third and hope they can pick out some good passes in front of goal.

Tom Rogic

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder will be counted upon to be a key playmaker against Peru. Not only is he an excellent dribbler and passer, he also is known for stepping up and scoring goals in big games. He has seven goals in 39 games for his national side and he is coming off of a fantastic season playing up front for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Trent Sainsbury

It's surprising to many that Sainsbury is only 26 years old considering it seems like he's been a key part of Australia's back line for a while now. Facing Peru's talented front line, it will be his job to keep the play in front of him and to keep his fellow defenders well organized. If the Aussies are able to pull off the win in this matchup, you can be sure that Sainsbury will play a big part in it.

Peru

Peru has plenty of solid attacking talent in their team, but they don't always show up in big games. Ricardo Gareca will probably stick with his 4-4-2 formation, but he will tell his players to be a bit more aggressive than they have been in recent months. That should be a good strategy against the Australians because they aren't a great counter attacking team, meaning Peru can take more chances than they can against other teams from this group.

Christian Cueva

Cueva is one of the most respected players on this Peruvian team thanks to his ability to take care of the ball and his fearlessness when going at opposing defenders. Peru will rely on him in this game to be aggressive and add to his international goal tally, which currently sits at eight.

Christian Ramos

The 73-time-capped defender is prone to mistakes, but he's also the type of player who can step up and consistently win aerial battles. Peru will hope that he's on his game against Australia and that he creates a bit of chaos when his team has set piece chances.
