On Saturday afternoon, the Ottawa Senators will be hoping to start their new year off with a win when they take on the Boston Bruins. The Senators and the Bruins have each picked up one win from their two games against each other this season.

The Senators scored three third-period goal against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night to help them pull off a 5-2 home win. Their penalty kill held the Sabres' power play goalless on their four power play chances and they outshot them 35-21 on the night.

Through 36 games this season, the Senators are in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference in scoring and goals against per game. Right wing Bobby Ryan is currently tied for the team lead in points with 25 by notching 10 goals and 15 assists. Goalie Craig Anderson is 9-9-5 on the season with three shutouts and a solid 2.41 GAA.

On Wednesday night, the Bruins scored three second-period goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they still ended up losing that game 4-3 in the shootout. They lost despite going 1-for-2 on the power play and outshooting the Maple Leafs 28-21 on the night.

The Bruins have struggled in their offensive zone this season, averaging just 2.6 goals per game. Goalie Tuukka Rask has had a good season so far by going 15-10-4 with one shutout, a 2.58 GAA and a .910 save percentage.
