Saturday night, the Winnipeg Jets will visit the Ottawa Senators.

The Winnipeg Jets rallied in their Thursday night game against the Pittsburgh Penguins but fell short in a 4 -3 shootout loss.  Winnipeg got the early lead thanks to an Andrew Ladd goal at 9:36 into the game.  But Pittsburgh answered less than 2 minutes later and the game was tied going into the 2nd.  Two straight goals in the 2nd gave Pittsburgh a 3 -1 lead but Winnipeg roared back.  They finished the 2nd with a goal and tied it up in the 3rd to send it to an overtime period.  But overtime wouldn’t be enough and a shootout would decide the contest.  Pittsburgh brushed off a Winnipeg goal to start the shootout and scored 2 to seal the win.  If the Jets thought that they had played a tough game that night, they face an even tougher one in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Senators have been unstoppable at home and they added to their home win streak Thursday night by beating the Minnesota Wild 3 – 0.  Neither team could find the back of the net in the 1st period.  It was scoreless until 2:23 in the 2nd when Clarke MacArthur broke the scoreless tie with a power play goal.  Ottawa added another goal a few minutes later and with one more in the 3rd, they got past the Wild.  Ottawa was outshot by Minnesota but they made their shots count where Minnesota didn’t.   The friendly confines of home have been great for the Senators and the win boosted their home record to 4-0-2.  It will be tough for the Jets to try and deal the Senators their first home loss of the season.
