Thursday night, the Winnipeg jets will take the ice at the Prudential Center as they face the New Jersey Devils.

The Winnipeg Jets made the most of the opportunities presented to them in their game Tuesday night against the New York islanders and it led the Jets to a 4 -3 victory.  Even though the Islanders scored just 1:16 into the game and led 1 – 0 after the 1st period, the Jets responded in the 2nd.  Winnipeg scored three straight goals to take a 3 -1 lead.  But the Jets got lax and allowed New York to tie the game with 2 goals in less than 2 minutes. Winnipeg’s Andrew Ladd broke the tie at 3:31 in the 3rd with his 2nd goal of the game and that goal would prove to be the game winner. The Jets were 2 for 4 on the power play and should get some opportunities against a Devils team that has struggled on the penalty kill.

The New Jersey Devils problems with the penalty kill contributed to their 8 - 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.   Things started out great for the Devils after they got a goal from Dainius Zubrus just 9 seconds into the 1st period.  And even though the Penguins tied the game up late in the 1st, the Devils answered with 2 goals to open the 2nd and take a 3 -1 lead.  But from that point on, it was all Pittsburgh.  The Pens scored 4 in the 2nd in including the first of 3 power play goals.  Pittsburgh added 3 more in the 3rd with 2 of those goals coming on the power play.  If New Jersey doesn’t tighten up their penalty killing unit, it could be along night for them against Winnipeg.
