The schedule makers have done Winnipeg a favor by putting their disappointing season out to pasture early as they wrap up for the year Friday night in Calgary. The Jets could either come out relaxed and excited to be done for the year and play great, laid-back hockey, or they could already be mentally checked out and checking their travel itinerary between periods.

In a small credit to coach Paul Maurice, Winnipeg hasn't fully quit on another disappointing year. On a 5-game road trip a little over 10 days ago the Jets did score upset victories over San Jose and Phoenix and won 4 out of 10 games from March 19th to April 7th. The Calgary game comes immediately after a Thursday night matchup with the Bruins so fatigue and end-of-the-year anxiety may be a factor.

The Flames have also played well lately for a team that is second-to-last in the Western Conference. Calgary won three straight games to finish off a five game road swing with wins over Tampa Bay, Florida, and New Jersey. In fact, the Flames have won 6 of 10 games from March 21st to April 7th despite being over a dozen points out of the 8th seed for the better part of 3 months.

Friday night's matchup between the Jets and Flames is the third of the year and is a rubber game between the teams who have split this season. The Flames notched a 5-4 shootout victory in Winnipeg way back on November 18th while the Jets returned the favor on January 16th in a 5-2 win North of the border. The Jets were slight favorites in both games with the total going over each time.
