Saturday night, the Washington Capitals will take the ice at the Air Canada Centre as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Washington Capitals will come in after hosting the New York Islanders at the Verizon Center Friday afternoon. The Islanders have been playing well and they will make it tough for the Capitals to go to Toronto in any shape less than fatigued for Saturday’s game. The Caps have been up and down in recent weeks and having to travel to Toronto right after a brutal home and home series against the Islanders is not an easy thing to do. If the Capitals can minimize their physical exertion in Friday’s game, they might be in the shape to come away with a win in Toronto. If not, it will be a tough Saturday night for the Capitals.
The Toronto Maple Leafs took a 4 - 3 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night. Although they fell behind early, the maple Leafs tried to come back and nearly succeeded. Pittsburgh opened the game with 2 goals in the 1st period to take a 2 – 0 lead going into the 2nd. Midway through the 2nd, Toronto started coming back. Leo Komarov’s back to back goals tied the game and even after the Penguins regained the lead, Tyler Bozak’s shorthanded goal near the end of the 2nd tied the game up once again. The game stayed tied through the 3rd and went to overtime where Pittsburgh eventually got the game winner. Toronto ended their 2 game win streak with the loss but will look to rebound and start a new streak against the Capitals.
