When the Washington Capitals play the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, they will be hoping that they can replicate the performance that they put together the last time they faced them. The Caps were able to dominate the game thanks to a huge first period and ended up beating the top team from the Western Conference 4-1 at home.

Alex Ovechkin was able to get the Capitals their first goal after Nicklas Backstrom fed him down the center of the ice before the Caps' captain scored past Blues' goalie Jaroslav Halak. Ovechkin would score again five minutes later after he got the rebound off of a Karl Alzner shot from the point. Three minutes after that, Mikhail Grabovsk made it 3-0 to the hosts off of an assist from Jason Chimera and Joel Ward.

St. Louis center Vladimir Sobotka got one back for the Blues with a power-play tally at the 5:29 mark of the second period. The last goal of the game came just four minutes later, when John Carlson got a power-play goal of his own and gave Washington the three-goal win.

Ovechkin's 16th and 17th goals were impressive, but goalie Braden Holtby was the first star for Washington in that game. He saved 46 of the 47 shots he faced in the game, which is the most that he has ever saved during the regular season.
