The Washington Capitals haven't had too many offensive outbursts this season as they were known for in years past,  but they got one in a 5-2 win against Nashville Predators the last time these two teams squared off. The Caps got out to an early lead and for once, were able to maintain it and add a few more later on in the game.

Troy Brouwer put Washington on the board first with his sixth of the season six minutes into the first period. Alex Ovechkin doubled the hosts lead with his 22nd of the season on a power-play goal assisted by Nicklas Backstrom. Defenseman Karl Alzner, who hadn't scored a home goal in his entire career, made it 3-0 Washington three minutes later. Roman Josi got one back for the Predators with less than 30 seconds left in the period.

Nate Schmidt got his first goal of the season three minutes into the third period to give the Caps a 4-1 lead. Eric Nystrom was able to answer for the Preds 23 seconds later, but Eric Fehr would seal the game for Washington with a goal later in the period.

Backstrom and Mikhail Grabovski had two assists apiece in the game, while Caps goalie Braden Holtby saved 34 of the 36 shots he faced on the night. Nashville goalie Marek Mazanec ended up with 28 saves in the loss.
