Meeting each other for the first time this season, the Los Angeles Kings are holding on strong to a third place position in the Pacific Division. The Washington Capitals, on the other hand, are in fifth place in the Metropolitan Division and are trying to capture a wild card spot.

After an eight game win streak, the Kings came home from a road trip to drop the last three games to Toronto, Anaheim, and Phoenix. The Kings' goalie Jonathan Quick made 23 saves on 27 shots in a loss to the Coyotes on Monday. He will most likely start in the game against the Capitals. The Capitals played the Ducks on Tuesday night before finishing off a short road trip at the Staples Center.

For Washington, every game counts when trying to capture a wild card spot, as they are just one game out. In an attempt to secure a spot, the Capitals have just recently picked up goaltender Jaroslav Halak from the Buffalo Sabres. Halak has played in the last five games for the Capitals and made 27 saves on 29 shots in a win over the Maple Leafs on Sunday. Washington hopes this will be their answer to not only to the playoff wild card spot, but since Halak has playoff experience, they also hope he will help bring them success in the playoffs.
