Wednesday night, the Washington Capitals will visit the Edmonton Oilers.

The Washington Capitals will try to make things a little easier on themselves in this one.   In Washington’s last game on Saturday night, they had a tough time getting by a lackluster Florida Panthers team.  Although the Caps beat the Panthers 2 -1, they needed overtime and a shootout to do it. It took the Capitals until late in the 1st period to score the first goal of the game.  That 1 - 0 lead held until early in the 3rd period when the Panthers tied things up.  After neither team could find the back of the net in overtime, the Caps broke out with 3 goals in the shootout to seal the victory.  Washington will look to get their high scoring offense back on track as they take on an Oilers team that hasn’t been that hard to score on so far this season.

The Edmonton Oilers will take the ice after picking up their first win of the season Monday night.  The Oilers captured a 3 - 2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning after nearly blowing the game.  The teams played to a scoreless tie in the 1st period but the Lightning opened the scoring in the 2nd with a goal a little over a minute into the period.  Edmonton answered with 2 goals to close out the period and take a 2 - 1 lead.  But after the Lightning tied it up late, the Oilers got the game winner from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with just a few minutes to spare.  Against a tough Capitals team, the Oilers will probably have to play their best defense of the season.  It the Caps offense picks up, the Oilers might not be able to catch up.
