The Washington Capitals will try to keep their spot at the top of the Metropolitan standings on Saturday when they take on the Calgary Flames. These two teams played each other twice last year, with each team picking up a home win.

The Capitals were unable to score in the last 25 minutes of their game against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday and ended up losing 3-2 on the road. They lost that game despite only giving up 20 shots on goal to the Oilers.

Washington's 27.3 percent power play percentage is currently fourth-best in the NHL, and they are seventh in scoring with 3.2 goals per game. Their best player has been superstar winger Alex Ovechkin, who has five goals and an assist in six games. Defenseman Mike Green has three goals and three assists in his five games. Goalie Braden Holtby has a 2-1-1 record with a .917 save percentage this season.

On Thursday night, the Flames picked up their first shutout of the season when they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0 at home. Their defense was excellent in that win, holding the Hurricanes to just 16 shots on goal.

Defenseman TJ Brodie has three goals for the Flames through eight games and he is tied for the team lead in points with seven. Left wing Mason Raymond has five goals and two assists so far this season, while center Joe Colborne leads the team in assists with six.
