In their second game following the Olympic break, the Minnesota Wild were able to beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 thanks to a seventh round shootout goal from Justin Fontaine. It was the Wild's fourth straight win and helped their goalie Darcy Kuemper, who had 30 saves on the night, improve to a 10-3-2 record on the season.

The two regulation goals were both scored in the first period. Vancouver's Ryan Kesler scored his 21st of the season on a shorthanded goal five minutes into the game, then Zach Parise tied the game with a power-play goal later in the period following a hooking penalty on Daniel Sedin. From that point on, both teams relied on solid defense and goaltending.

In the shootout, Vancouver's Chris Higgins had a chance to give his side the lead after a nice deke, but his shot clanged off the post. After multiple misses from both teams, Fontaine was able to get his shot under the goalie's pads to give his side the advantage. David Booth attempted to tie it up by attempting a spinning shot on Kuemper, but the Wild's goaltender was able to stop it to seal the win.

Vancouver was able to win the physical battle by outhitting Minnesota 35-25 in the game, but their dismal scoring continued as they were only able to score five times in the next six games. Eddie Lack had 22 saves for the Canucks in the losing effort.
