Friday night, the puck will drop at the Rexall Place as the Vancouver Canucks visit the Edmonton Oilers. It will be the 2nd time that the 2 teams have met in less than a week.
The Vancouver Canucks should come into this one extremely well rested and extremely well prepared. They haven’t played since last Saturday and that game was against the very same Edmonton Oilers that they will face Friday. The Canucks were victorious in that game 5 -4 after a shootout but they might not want to replicate their play from that game. Vancouver went down 2 - 0 in the 1st before closing the gap to 2 -1 at the end of the period. The teams battled hard in the 2nd but Edmonton was still up 4 -3 going into the 3rd. Vancouver tied it up in the 4th and snatched away the win in the shootout. If they can get the shots and the power play opportunities in this game that they got in the last, they could keep it in regulation and possibly win too.
The Edmonton Oilers will come in after taking the loss against the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night. Edmonton didn’t have to lose that game though because they started out well. The Oilers took the lead just minutes into the game and managed to shake off 2 straight Arizona goals to keep it a 2 - 2 game after the 1st period. The rest of the game was mostly Arizona. The Coyotes scored 2 in the 2nd and despite the best efforts of the Oilers, Arizona pulled away in the 3rd. Without a victory this season, the Oilers are going to have to fix their problems sooner than later. They are giving up too many goals without scoring enough of their own and that is a losing combination.
