Wednesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs will continue their road trip with a stop at the Canadian Tire Center to take on the Ottawa Senators.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will come into this game after playing the New York Islanders in New York on Tuesday night. The task of playing back to back road games is always difficult and any fatigue could slow down the Leafs as they try to beat the Senators. So far this season, few teams have been able to successfully handle 2 back to back games like this. And given Toronto’s slow start to the season, back to back games at this point in the season could lead to another loss.
The Ottawa Senators, on the other hand, will be well rested coming into this game. Their last game was on Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ottawa scraped out a 3 -2 win in that contest after blowing an early lead. The Senators scored a goal late in the 1st period and added another early in the 2nd period to take a 2 -0 lead. But they gave up 2 quick goals towards the end of the period to make it a 2 -2 game going into the final period. In the 3rd, Mike Hoffman broke the tie with the eventual game winning goal for Ottawa. Even though it was a win, it didn’t look good for Ottawa. The lost the face-offs battle and were outshot as well. Another win under those circumstances will be hard to come by.
