In the first meeting of the season, the Los Angeles Kings came into the Air Canada Centre to play the Toronto Maple Leafs with a four game winning streak. When they left, they left with an extended five game winning streak.

Kings Goalie Martin Jones had 28 saves including many crucial saves down the stretch that helped the Kings hold on to a 3-1 win. Drew Doughty scored the first goal of the game on a power-play, with 10:30 left in the first period. Jeff Carter came around in the third period and beat his former teammate Johnathan Bernier with a quick shot between the legs to give the Kings a 2-1 lead, and then Kyle Clifford sealed the deal with a late game goal that put Toronto out of reach.

Even though Toronto out-shot L.A. 39 to 23, it wasn't enough. Cody Franson scored on a 5-on-3 power-play goal that tied the game in the second period giving him his first goal of the season. Maybe it wasn't the shots on goal that they were missing as much as it was tough hard-nose playing. L.A. dominated Toronto 51 hits to Toronto's 33.

On Thursday Toronto comes to the Kings' backyard in an attempt to even the score. Toronto is currently ranked 3rd in the Atlantic Division and L.A. is ranked 3rd in the Pacific. The Kings might be the more rested of the two, coming off of a three game road trip with two days of rest going into the game, while Toronto will be in the middle of their five game road trip.
