At the Big House in Ann Arbor, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings would play in front of a record 105,491 people on a freezing cold New Years Day the last time these 2 teams played. The game was lop-sided when it came to shots on goal. And then for Toronto, James Van Riemsdyk managed to put one in to tie the game up with less than one minute to go in the second. The third period would see much of the same. Two hard fighting teams who both managed to put a goal in. Tyler Bozak of the Leafs put in an early goal, while Justin Abdelkader put in a late goal that tied things up and moved it to overtime. Neither team could score in overtime and that led to a shootout.

Pavel Datsyuk started the scoring with a goal on Jonathan Bernier. Then Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak of the Leafs both scored in the late stages of the shootout, taking the game home 3-2.
