Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings will play the back half of their home and home series that started Friday night.

 The Toronto Maple Leafs have played decent hockey so far in the young season but there is some room for improvement. They are getting their shots on goal and hitting the back of the net with regularity but they are also giving up too many shots on goal and goals in the process. They have been effective on the power play but they could tighten up their penalty killing.  All of the negatives can be fixed but they will certainly be a point of emphasis for a Detroit team that is extremely familiar with the Leafs.

The Detroit Red Wings are also a team that has some things to work on.  The Red Wings are also giving up more shots on goal than they are making and that is never a recipe for success.  The more looks you give another team, the greater the chance they will convert some of those looks into goals.  The Red Wings have been dismal on the power play but they have been lethal on the penalty kill.  It’s expected that it will be interesting to see if the Red Wings can shut down the Leafs on the power play.    After Saturday’s game, fans will have a clearer picture of how the two teams stack up against each other.
