Friday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning will visit the Winnipeg Jets.

The Tampa Bay Lightning escaped with a 2 - 1 overtime victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.  That game was a tight match early on with neither team able to get an edge on their opponent.  The first two periods were scoreless but Calgary took a 1 - 0 lead early in the 3rd. Tampa Bay’s Valtteri Filppula found the back of the net late to tied it up.  And in overtime, Ondrej Palat gave the Lightning the hard fought victory with his goal 3 minutes in to the extra period.  If Tampa Bay can muster the same defensive effort against a Winnipeg team that has struggled to score, they should be able to earn another win.

The Winnipeg Jets halted a 4 game losing streak with a 3 -1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.  The Jets didn’t waste any time getting on the board in that game as they posted a goal just 1:57 into the 1st period.  With a second goal less than a minute later, the Jets were up 2 - 0.  Carolina cut the lead down to 2 -1 in the 1st period to make it interesting  but Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien scored the goal that sealed the victory late in the 2nd period.  If the win can give the Jets some confidence, it might help lead them to a win over the Lightning.
