The Montreal Canadiens were able to take a 3-0 series lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning after beating them 3-2 on Sunday night. The Canadiens looked like they would cruise to victory after scoring just 11 seconds into the contest, but the game was close throughout and they needed a late goal to be able to secure the win.
Rene Bourque scored that early goal when defenseman P.K. Subban was able to pass it to him behind Tampa Bay's defense and Bourque got his shot past goalie Anders Lindback. The Lightning didn't put their heads down, though, and were able to tie it eight minutes into the second period through a Ondrej Palat power-play goal. Brendan Gallagher would put the Canadiens back on top with two minutes left in the period, and then Tomas Plekanec scored his second of the series at the 5:43 mark of the third to give Montreal the 3-1 lead. Matt Carle got the Lightning back to within one midway through the third, but Tampa Bay couldn't get the tying goal.
Gallagher had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens, while Subban finished with two assists. Goalie Carey Price ended up with 27 saves in the win.
Lightning star forward Steven Stamkos didn't get a goal in the game, but he did end up with two assists. Lindback played well despite taking the loss, saving 28 of Montreal's 31 shots on goal.
