Steven Stamkos returned to the Tampa Bay Lightning lineup the last time they faced the Buffalo Sabres, but the Sabres found a way to win on the road 3-1. Stamkos, who had been out nearly four months after breaking his shin in Boston, got six shots on goal in the game, but couldn't find the back of the net in his return.

Defenseman Tyler Myers put the Sabres on the board first by beating Lightning goalie Anders Lindback, who was also returning to the Tampa Bay lineup after a long injury spell. Marcus Foligno made it 2-0 to the visitors in the second period with his seventh goal of the season. Cody Hodgson was able to get the Sabres an important insurance goal midway through the third period. Tyler Johnson scored a shorthanded tally for the Lightning a few minutes later, but it was too late for a Tampa comeback.

Everyone expected Stamkos to be the star of the game as he has so many times in the past, but Buffalo's Jhonas Enroth stole the show in the road team's win. The fifth-year goalie made a total of 43 saves and only the goal by Johnson kept him from getting the shutout.

Ryan Callahan, who was traded to the Lightning for Martin St. Louis the night before, made his debut for the home side but didn't have a point in the game.
