On Monday night, the St. Louis Blues will be hoping that their solid defense can handle offense of the New York Rangers. These two teams played each other on opening night, with the Rangers pulling off a 3-2 road win.
The Blues were able to win their fourth game in a row on Saturday night when they defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in overtime. They were 2-for-4 on the power play in that win and they outhit the Avs 23-17.
St. Louis hasn't been able to score many goals this season, but they are holding opponents to less than two goals per game. Blues right wing Vladimir Tarasenko has six goals in 10 games this season and he leads the team with 11 points. Goalie Brian Elliott is 4-2-1 in seven starts with a shutout and a 1.96 GAA.
On Saturday, the Rangers faced an in-form goalie and were shut out 1-0 in the shootout by the Winnipeg Jets on home ice. They were 0-for-5 in the power play in that loss and they were goalless despite getting 38 of shots on goal.
Through 10 games, Rangers left wing Rick Nash has nine goals and two assists, while center Derick Brassard has four goals and seven points on the season. Veteran goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has a 5-3-1 record on the year with two shutouts, a 2.85 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
