On Thursday night, the San Jose Sharks will be playing the Tampa Bay Lightning in a game between two of the best power plays in the NHL. During the 2013-14 season, the Sharks won both of their games against the Lightning.

The Sharks lost their second straight game on Tuesday when they were beaten 4-1 by the Florida Panthers on the road. They were 0-for-2 on the power play in that game and they only ended up with 22 shots on goal. Goaltender Antti Niemi is 6-5-1 with one shutout and a .911 save percentage on the season.

San Jose has a top 5 power play right now by scoring on 25.9 percent of their chances with the extra man. Center Logan Couture has seven goals through 17 games and he is tied for the team lead with 16 points.

On Tuesday, the Lightning scored late in their game against the Chicago Blackhawks to send the game into overtime, but they ended up losing 3-2 in the shootout. Their penalty kill was excellent in that game, keeping the Blackhawks scoreless on their six power play opportunities.

The Lightning are near the top of the league in scoring with 3.7 goals per game. Center Tyler Johnson has had a strong start to the season by picking up five goals and a team-high 18 points in 16 games. Netminder Ben Bishop has a 9-1-2 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.39 GAA.
