The San Jose Sharks and the Phoenix Coyotes played in their second straight overtime game the last time they saw each other, but this time the Sharks were able to come away with the 4-3 win. San Jose had 32 hits in the game to Phoenix's 22, while also leading in the shots on goal department 37-32 on their way to a home win.

Phoenix was able to score the lone goal of the first period thanks to a David Moss unassisted tally. Ten minutes into the second, though, Joe Pavelski tied it up with his 16th goal of the season. Moss answered just over a minute later with his second goal of the game, but the Sharks answered again when Patrick Marleau scored a power-play goal a few minutes later. After Brent Burns was able to give San Jose their first lead of the game 10 minutes into the third period, Radim Vrbata was able to force overtime with a power-play goal for Phoenix.

Phoenix was able to get one goal in the shootout, but Marleau and Logan Couture were able to make their attempts to get the win for the home side.

Both goalies had good games despite giving up a combined six goals. San Jose netminder Antti Niemi was able to stop 34 of the 37 shots he faced, while Phoenix's Mike Smith saved 29 of the Sharks' 32 shots at his net.

San Jose has now won two of the three meetings going into Saturday's game.
