The San Jose Sharks will go on the road to face the struggling defense of the New York Rangers on Sunday.

The Sharks were able to sweep their two-game regular season series against the Rangers last year. They dominated New York by the score of 9-2 in their early matchup, and then they pulled off a 1-0 win later in the season.

Sharks netminder Antti Niemi has faced the Rangers four times in his career and is 2-1-1 against them with a .921 save percentage and a 2.21 GAA. Veteran Joe Thornton has nine goals and 23 assists in 32 games against New York, while center Joe Pavelski has six points and a plus-6 in six games against them.

Against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, the Rangers scored a late goal to send the game into overtime, and then won the game 2-1 in the shootout. Their best player in that game was goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who had 29 saves in the win.

New York has only scored 2.4 goals per game and has yet to score on the power play this season. Left wing Rick Nash has had a great start to the season, scoring six goals in his team's first five games. Veteran right wing Martin St. Louis leads the team with four assists and a plus/minus of +5. Lundqvist is now 2-2-0 with a 4.09 GAA and an .858 save percentage.
