Saturday night, the San Jose Sharks will travel to the Prudential Center to take on the New Jersey Devils.

The San Jose Sharks played a thriller in their Thursday night meeting against the New York Islanders but fell just short in the 4 -3 shootout loss.   The Sharks and Islanders were scoreless through the 1st period but they made up for it the rest of the game.  San Jose took a 1 – 0 lead early in the 2nd but they were quickly matched by the Islanders.  San Jose went ahead 2 -1 midway through the period and held that lead until early in the 3rd when New York scored 2 quick goals to go up 3 -2.  The Sharks knotted it up in the 3rd and after a scoreless overtime, the teams went to a shootout.  San Jose scored first but New York scored 2 more times to get the win.  The Sharks are playing some inspired hockey and will definitely be a tough opponent for the equally strong Devils.

The New Jersey Devils will also come into this game after suffering a loss on Thursday night.  The Devils fell to the Washington Capitals 6 – 2.  New Jersey started strong and were tied 2 -2 with Washington after the 1st period.  But the Devils virtually disappeared down the stretch as they allowed a goal in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd.  Despite their late breakdown, the Devils are still posting decent numbers.  Their power play efficiency and their penalty kill could be a little better but there is time to improve those numbers. And with both teams looking to erase the memories of losses, expect a tough battle.
