In the last meeting between the Sharks and Blue Jackets, San Jose bombarded the Blue Jackets with 47 shots on goal giving them the win 3-2. Scoring came quick for San Jose when James Sheppard fired a shot that made it to John McCarthy's stick and banked in. This was McCarthy's first goal since 2010. Not even five minutes later, Scott Hannan of San Jose took a shot that was saved, but Patrick Marleau grabbed the rebound and put it in to put the Sharks up 2-0.

When the second period came, Ryan Johansen scored just 18 seconds into the period for Columbus, the only goal of the period. In the third period Boone Jenner would get involved for Columbus with a goal to tie up the game. Jenner had a goal earlier in the game that was waived off due to high sticking. But in the end it would be Tommy Wingels that came through with the winning goal for San Jose and his second game winning goal in two games.

The Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was forced to make 44 saves, a lot of which came in the third when the Blue Jackets were clearly tired and were getting outplayed. It was the extended shift that lead to the Sharks final goal that Wingels popped in. The Blue Jackets needed a change desperately but the Sharks had just too much pressure on them. On Thursday the Sharks might be the more well rested of the two teams. The Sharks will be going into Columbus for their first away game in almost two weeks.
