The Calgary Flames didn't look like huge underdogs the last time they faced the San Jose Sharks. They were able to cruise to a 4-1 win at home thanks to a solid game on both ends of the ice and 27 saves from goalie Karri Ramo. Lee Stempniak opened the scoring for the Flames in the middle of the first period. The eventual game winning goal was made in the second period by Mark Giordano, which came after Mikael Backlund had his shot bounce off the boards straight to Giordano's stick in front of the net.

The Sharks' Eriah Hayes cut the lead in half early in the third with his first NHL goal after receiving a great pass from Patrick Marleau. That was as close as the Sharks would get, though, as Sean Monahan scored midway through the period before Jiri Hudler's empty-net tally made it 4-1. Mikael Backlund and veteran defenseman Dennis Wideman ended up with two assists apiece in the win, which was the Flames' fourth in a row.

The Sharks may have had the better record, but on that night the Flames just looked like the better team. The loss for the Sharks came in their worst offensive stretch of the season, in which they only scored 13 goals in 10 games.
