On Dec. 5, the San Jose Sharks headed East to face the Pittsburgh Penguins. Chris Kunitz scored two goals, Sidney Crosby tallied three assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury recorded 44 saves in a 5-1 win over the Sharks.
Kunitz scored twice in the second period and with goals from Jayson Megna and Pascal Dupuis, the Penguins had a 4-0 lead at the 7:30 mark of the second. This cushion helped Fleury get the win on this night. Fleury had 44 stops on the night and looked quite impressive after turning the Sharks away shot after shot. He gave up one goal to Tomas Hertl in the second but that was all that would be given.
Since 2009, these two teams have only faced off four times in the regular season with San Jose taking three of the four. The Sharks were favorites in all four of these games. The Sharks have also played well over the last month and at one point won five out of seven games straight up. They'll be looking to add another win to their total when Pittsburgh heads out West to face them.
Pittsburgh hasn't been playing as well lately and even though they've been favored in almost every game they've played over the last month, they haven't performed like the favorite. The Penguins have lost two straight at home so a trip out West may do this team some good.
