Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh penguins will take the ice at Madison Square Garden as they face the New York Rangers.
The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up their 7th straight win as they beat the Buffalo Sabres 6 - 1 on Saturday night. The Penguins started strong in that game and never looked back. Pittsburgh scored 3 goals in the opening period, including 2 by Kris Letang. The scoring surge continued in the 2nd period as Pittsburgh added 2 more goals to take a 5 – 0 lead. Buffalo managed to score a goal late in the period but Pittsburgh put up goal number 6 to end the period. Neither team scored in the 3rd period, but in all reality, it didn’t matter by that point. Pittsburgh has won 8 of their last 10 games and will present quite the challenge for a New York team that hasn’t been playing anywhere near as well as Pittsburgh.
The New York Rangers fell 3 -1 to the Edmonton Oilers in their last game on Sunday night. The Oilers scored the first goal of the game early in the 1st but it took New York until midway through the period to tie things up. The Rangers wouldn’t get close again. The Oilers added a goal in the 2nd period and then sealed the win with a goal late in the 3rd. New York’s numbers were bad all around as they were outshot 33 to 21, they lost the battle on face-offs 39 to 29 and just generally didn’t play well. New York is just 1 -4 in their last 5 games and will have little chance of beating a red-hot Pittsburgh team unless they put forth a better effort than they displayed in recent games.
