Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins will visit the Detroit Red Wings.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will come into this one after playing their cross-state rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers, on Wednesday night.  After an expected tough game against the Flyers at home, the flight to Detroit for a back to back game will seem even shorter than usual.  A little fatigue will more than likely slow down the high scoring Pens and that might give the Red Wings a slight edge in this game.  But the Red Wings will be only slightly rested thanks to the extra hockey that they had to play in their last game.

The Detroit Red Wings needed an overtime period to finish their Tuesday night game against the Montreal Canadiens.  And even with the extra period, they still lost 2 -1.   It was a hard fought game for both teams. Neither team could find a way to light the lamp in the 1st period and the game remained scoreless until Henrik Zetterberg put the Wings up 1 – 0 late in the 2nd period.  Montreal tied it up towards the end of regulation and less than a minute into overtime, they got the game winner.  If Pittsburgh is tired, Detroit might be able to get away with scoring just one goal.  But it Pittsburgh has any life in their legs; Detroit might have to face an uphill battle.
