The Phoenix Coyotes were able to help get coach Dave Tippett his 450th career win the last time they faced the New Jersey Devils, a tightly fought contest that Phoenix won 3-2 at home. Martin Hanzal had a goal and an assist in the encounter, including the eventual game-winning goal late in the second period.

The Coyotes got off to a great start thanks to Jordan Szwarz's third goal of the season just two and a half minutes into the game. Jeff Halpern doubled the hosts lead 10 minutes later, but Ryane Clowe was able to get one back for the Devils on a late power-play goal. Hanzal gave Phoenix the 3-1 lead midway through the third period with a power-play goal of his own. Jaromir Jagr scored with less than three minutes left to go in the third, but the Devils were unable to get any more.

Phoenix's goalie Mike Smith had a very good game, stopping 33 of the shots he faced. His best save of the night was a clutch stop on Jagr, who had a chance to tie the game up with a little over a minute left in the game.

New Jersey's left wing Ryane Clowe was the standout performer for the Devils with a goal and an assist on the night. Veteran goalie Martin Brodeur had 24 saves on the night.
