After a rough road trip, the Phoenix Coyotes dropped to ninth in the standings and waited for what looked like a kind of sluggish Los Angeles Kings team to show up. The Coyotes played hard, fast and with the heart of a team that needed a confidence building win. And that they got by shutting out the Kings 3-0.

Playing what looked like their best game of the season, the Coyotes put a score on the board in every period, while Tomas Greiss held court in the net with 30 saves. The Coyotes kept goaltender Jonathan Quick busy in the first period with numerous shots that Quick could only stand up to for so long. Oliver Ekman-Larsson got an open look just long enough to sneak in a wrister that gave the Coyotes momentum and the lead going into the first intermission.

The second period showed aggressive play by both teams. After a heavy hit by Jordan Nolan of the Kings on Kyle Chipchure, a scrum ensued that led to a penalty for the Coyotes. The penalty was taken advantage of just 12 seconds into the power-play when Ekam-Larsson beat Quick with a slap shot to score his second goal of the game. The heavy play would continue into the third period when a scramble for the puck landed on Antoine Vermette's stick and was shoved into the net, ending the scoring for the game and giving the Coyotes the win. Vermette's goal gave him 19 on the season.
