Thursday night, the Philadelphia Flyers will journey to the Amalie Center to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Philadelphia Flyers had been experiencing the same slow start that they had last season but in the last few games, things have slightly turned around. And the Flyers looked a lot better in their 3 -2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. The Kings had won 6 straight coming into the game and it was widely expected that they would win their 7th. But the prospect of playing some former teammates in front of the home crowd might have spurred the Flyers on. They took the early 1 – 0 lead on a Michael Raffl goal. After the Kings tied it up, the Flyers took the lead again to end the period. But former Flyers captain Mike Richards victimized his former team with the tying goal in the 2nd. A scoreless 3rd led to the overtime period where Brayden Schenn scored the game winner at 2:36. The Flyers played smart hockey (just 2 penalties) and will need to do the same against a Tampa Bay team that could be hard to beat.
The Tampa Bay Lightning were nothing short of impressive in their 7 -3 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night. Tampa Bay scored early and often and Arizona just didn’t know what to do. The Lightning went up 2 – 0 by the end of the 1st and extended the lead to 3 – 0 early in the 2nd. Arizona scored 2 in the 2nd but Tampa Bay added another goal to go up 4 -1 leading into the 3rd. That’s where Nikita Kucherov completed the hat trick and Tampa Bay brushed off an Arizona goal with 2 more. Tampa Bay will provide quite a challenge for the Flyers if they come out in Thursday’s game they way they did on Tuesday.
