Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers will take the ice at the CONSOL Energy Center as they face their cross-state rivals – the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Philadelphia Flyers have started this season just as badly as they started last season. It took them 5 games to get their first win and will have to enter Pittsburgh after playing against the Chicago Blackhawks in Chicago on Tuesday night.  Back to back road games are tough for even the best of hockey teams.  And with the way that the Flyers have been playing as of late, back to back games against 2 of the NHL’s top teams is not something that they will be looking forward to.  But Philadelphia has been scoring and if they can cut down on the number of goals that they are allowing, they could get a chance to steal a win on the other side of the state. 

But the Pittsburgh Penguins might not give the Flyers too many scoring opportunities.  Pittsburgh will come into this game high off of their 3 -1 win over the New York Islanders.   The Pens gave up a goal early in the 1st period but after going down 1 – 0, they put up 3 goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods to come away with the win.  They got the win by converting 2 of their 4 power play opportunities and by shutting down the Islanders on the penalty kill.   If they can bring that type of effort Wednesday night, they should have no trouble with the Flyers.
