In a battle of two of the top teams from the Metropolitan Division, the Philadelphia Flyers were able to beat the New York Rangers at home 4-2 the last time the teams played each other. This was a very big win for the Flyers, as they were coming off of a 7-3 blowout loss to San Jose two days before this game took place.

Philadelphia was able to take the lead in the first period thanks to goals from Vincent Lecavalier and Sean Couturier. The Rangers were resilient, though, as they got two back in the second period through Chris Kreider's 14th goal of the season and a power-play strike from Derick Brassard. Wayne Simmonds was able to give the Flyers the lead back later in the period on a power-play goal of his own. After an apparent Philadelphia goal was waved off with just over three minutes left in the third, Luke Schenn sealed the win for the Flyers with his fourth of the season.

Simmonds had a goal and an assist, while goalie Steve Mason, who was pulled early in that loss to the Sharks, stopped 33 shots in the win. New York's star goalie Henrik Lundqvist had a decent game, stopping 27 of the 31 shots he faced. The win moved the Flyers to within one point of the Rangers in the division.
