On January 2nd the Winnipeg Jets traveled to the Canadian Tire Centre to take on the Ottawa Senators. The Senators were able to best the Jets 4-3 when Clarke MacArthur scored the winning goal at the 11:29 mark of the third period. This was Ottawa's third straight win and they were finally playing some good hockey. At this point, they hadn't won back-to-back games in over seven weeks. On the game winning score, Kyle Turris intercepted, passed it to MacArthur and waited for him to do the rest.
Also scoring goals for the Senators were Mika Zibanejad, Milan Michalek and Zack Smith.
For the Jets, Dustin Byfuglien, Evander Kane and Olli Jokinen were able to score but it wasn't enough in the end as the Senators won their fourth out of five games.
Craig Anderson was in goal for Ottawa and had 32 saves on the night with some help from the post which was hit three times by the Jets in this one.
This game was tied up at one point when Kane scored from behind the net at the 1:32 mark of the second period. It wasn't enough to hold off the Senators who then came back in the third and scored two straight.
Over the last 10 head-to-head matchups between Winnipeg and Ottawa, the Senators have got 7-3. With the home team normally favored in this matchup, the Senators have been paying no mind to that and really dominating the series. The 'under' has won five times in these last 10 games as well.
Both teams have been playing a lot of road games as of late. Ottawa has been on the losing end more than not over the last month while Winnipeg has been hanging tough around .500 over the same time period. The Senators haven't played well away from home with five of their six most recent losses coming away from home.
