Saturday night, the Ottawa Senators will try to add their first mark in the win column as they travel to meet the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Ottawa Senators didn’t look good their first time out in the regular season and the end result was a 3 -2 loss to the Nashville Predators. Neither team could get anything going in the 1st period but the Senators were the first to get on the board in the 2nd.  The managed to hold that 1 – 0 lead the entire period but things turned south early in the 3rd.  Three straight goals by the Predators put Nashville on top and despite a late Ottawa goal, on top was where the Predators stayed.   The numbers weren’t pretty for the Senators.  They were outshot and outhustled by Nashville and they can’t afford to let that happen too often.  Their obvious goal against the Lightning will be to get more shots on goal and to win more face-offs.

The Tampa Bay Lightning had a tough first game of their own but they managed to come out on top in a 3 -2 overtime victory over the Florida Panthers. After a scoreless 1st period, the Panthers took a 1 - 0 lead early in the 2nd. But a little over 2 minutes later, the Lightning tied the game on a Tyler Johnson power play goal.  Tampa Bay got the lead in the 3rd on a Ryan Callahan power play goal but they couldn’t hold it.  It would take a Victor Hedman power play goal in overtime to seal the victory.   Tampa Bay was 3 for 7 on the power play and they dominated on face-offs. If they can put up numbers like that against Ottawa, Tampa Bay might earn another win.
