The Ottawa Senators and the Florida Panthers last played each other back in December when the Panthers got two late goals to pull off the 4-2 win. Florida goaltender Scott Clemmensen had 32 saves on the night to help his team win their fifth straight in that early stretch of the season.
Five minutes into the game, Florida's Jimmy Hayes opened up the scoring as his shot beat Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson to give the away team the early lead. Later in the first period, Chris Neil evened the score by beating Clemmensen, then Ottawa took the lead with a power play goal from Jason Spezza. Aleksander Barkov scored the only goal of the second period, tying the game with a redirected goal past Ottawa's netminder.
After 17 minutes of back and forth action in the third period, Tom Gilbert gave the Panthers the lead with a nice one-timer off a pass from Tomas Fleischmann. Then, less than a minute later, Tomas Kopecky got Florida its fourth goal on a shorthanded tally after Ottawa's Erik Karlsson lost the puck in the Panther's zone.
Gilbert finished the game with a goal and an assist as the Panthers continued to make up for their terrible start to the season. Anderson ended the game with 35 saves in the losing effort.
Florida's Mika Zibanejad missed the final two periods after he left the game with an injury.
