The Ottawa Senators will be going up against the Florida Panthers on Friday night in a game that will feature two solid defenses. In mid-October, the Senators were able to shut out the Panthers 1-0 in Florida.

Against them St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, the Senators scored two goals in the third period to send the game in overtime, then beat them 3-2 in the shootout. They had 10 penalties in that win, but they only allowed one goal on St. Louis' six power plays.

Through 21 games, the Senators have one of the better power play percentages in the league by scoring 20 percent of the time with the extra man. Defenseman Erik Karlsson has six goals and a team-high 16 points so far this season. Netminder Craig Anderson is now 5-4-3 on the year with two shutouts, a 2.38 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

On Wednesday night, the Panthers snapped their two-game losing skid by shutting out the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0 at home. Backup netminder Al Montoya picked up his first shutout of the season by stopping all 22 of the shots that came his way.

The Panthers haven't played very well on the offensive side of the ice this year, but their defense has been able to hold opponents to less than 2.5 goals per game. Left wing Jussi Jokinen has scored two goals and leads the team with 12 points through 20 games.
