Tuesday night, the Ottawa Senators will take the ice at the Nationwide Arena as they face the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Ottawa Senators lost a close 2 -1 game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night.  The teams played a scoreless 1st period but things opened up in the 2nd.  Just 21 seconds in, the Blackhawks took a 1 -0 lead but Ottawa answered with a Milan Michalek shorthanded goal at 7:08.  Chicago added their second goal late in the 2nd and that would prove to be all that they needed.  Neither team could light the lamp in the 3rd.  The Senators gave the Blackhawks 6 power plays and were lucky that Chicago only scored on one of those opportunities.  Ottawa was also outshot 45 - 33.   Even against the Blue Jackets, the Senators will have to improve those numbers if they want to leave the Nationwide Arena with a win.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will come home after losing 5 – 2 on Sunday to the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.  It wasn’t until 14:39 into the 1st period that anyone scored and it was Columbus’ Tim Erixon that put the Blue Jackets up 1 – 0 on his power play goal.  But the Blue Jackets wouldn’t lead again.  The Kings scored 3 straight goals in the 2nd period to go up 3 – 1.  Columbus closed the gap to 3 – 2 late in the 2nd, but Los Angeles pulled away with 2 goals in the 3rd.  Columbus has had a rough time of it their last few games and will need to play just a little better if they want to get past the Senators.
