Saturday night, the Ottawa Senators will visit the TD Garden to take on the Boston Bruins.
The Ottawa Senators had to play some extra hockey in their Thursday night game against the Chicago Blackhawks, but they fell just short in the 5 - 4 shootout loss. It seemed like the Senators were battling all night. After Ottawa scored the first goal of the night, Chicago scored 2 to take a 2 -1 lead after the 1st period. Early in the 2nd, Ottawa tied it up and then they took the lead 30 seconds into the 3rd. Chicago posted 2 goals in the 3rd but Ottawa tied it up again at the close of regulation. After a scoreless overtime, the Blackhawks scored the final goal of the night in the shootout. That tough game could have served as a warm-up for another possibly tough game against the Bruins.
The Boston Bruins had to play some extra hockey themselves Thursday night. But they came away with a 3 – 2 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres. Neither team found a way to score in the 1st but the Sabres drew first blood in the 2nd. After Boston tied it up, Buffalo regained the lead at the end of the 2nd. In the 3rd, Brad Marchand’s goal at 14:30 evened things up once more and in overtime, Marchand scored again to give the Bruins the win. With both teams having played a tough game beforehand, this meeting between the Senators and Bruins could be a tight matchup as both clubs try to take control early.
