Saturday night, the New York Rangers will journey to the Air Canada Centre to face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The New York Rangers last played on Wednesday night and should be well rested after their 4 - 3 overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings. New York had to play extra hockey because they once again fell apart late in a game. The Rangers opened the scoring with a goal in the 1st period and they added one in the 2nd to take a 2 – 0 lead. But New York gave up 2 Detroit goals in 13 seconds to make it a 2 -2 game going into the 3rd. New York regained the lead in the 3rd but gave it up in the closing seconds to force overtime. Fortunately, they came away with the overtime win but these late game collapses are becoming a bad habit for the Rangers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs played a back and forth game with the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night but they ended up losing 4 -3 in a shootout. Colorado took the lead just seconds into the start of the game but later in the 1st, the Maple Leafs tied it up. Toronto took a 2 -1 lead early in the 2nd but a minute later the game was tied again. Colorado would take the next lead midway through the 3rd but Toronto would answer once again to send the game to overtime. After the teams failed to score in overtime, the game went to a shootout. Colorado’s first goal was matched by Toronto but Colorado added 2 more to seal the win. The Maple Leafs can expect another tough game as the Rangers should give them some stiff competition.
