In Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series, the New York Rangers were able to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in overtime to take a 1-0 lead.

The Rangers had a great start to the game and were rewarded with the first goal five minutes into the game when Benoit Pouliot scored his third of the playoffs. Brad Richards would double the Rangers' lead with three minutes remaining in the first off of assists by Carl Hagelin and Dan Girardi.

The game turned around in the second period when Pittsburgh started to up their shot attempts. Lee Stempniak was able to put one past New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist seven minutes into the period, and then James Neal tied the game up at 2-2 scored at the 13:28 mark.

After no goals were scored in the third, the two teams went into overtime. Pittsburgh had a couple of chances to win the game, but Derick Brassard's shot on goal three minutes into OT was reviewed and the refs declared that it was a good goal.

Pouliot finished the game with a goal and an assist for New York, while Girardi ended up with two assists in the win. Lundqvist had a fantastic night in goal for the Rangers by stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced.

Penguins' star Sidney Crosby has now gone 12 consecutive playoff games without a goal.
