The Rangers were able to steal back home ice advantage in their opening round series against the Flyers after pulling off a 4-1 win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. They look to grab one more in the City of Brotherly Love on Friday night before heading back to New York and finishing the Flyers off Sunday. Philadelphia might have something to say though and this series could be destined to go the distance as evidenced by the teams 2-2 record against each other in the regular season.
During the regular season each time won 2 games on their home ice and it looked like the Rangers were going to keep that trend going with a series opening 4-1 victory in which they scored three goals in the third period. The Rangers had 6 power play attempts in game 1 while Philadelphia managed only 15 shots on goal, including just one in the decisive third period as New York won as -154 favorites.
The Flyers came back to shock New York in game 2, stealing home ice with a 4-2 win in New York. It looked like much of the same as the Rangers had a 2-0 lead just 8:22 into the game but Philadelphia scored the next 4 goals to earn their first win in 9 trips to The Garden to cash in at +146. The Flyers managed 25 shots this time around including 2 power play goals but gave New York a man advantage 6 more times.
Game 3 saw the Rangers reassert themselves with a 4-1 win in Philly while favored at -105. The Flyers may have goaltending issues moving forward in the series as Ray Emery was lifted after allowing 4 goals on 20 shots and Steve Mason is still recovering from an upper body injury. Oddsmakers have taken that into account making New York favorites once again at -106.
