In the last game between the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils, they would be the first teams to play in the Bronx outside at the new Yankee Stadium. The game was delayed for about an hour because of too much sun reflecting off the ice. But cloud cover would eventually kick in and the game would start.

New York's goalie Henrik Lundqvist had a rough first period by letting three goals in. He was said to be taking a nap during the delay and said after the game he was not mentally ready for the first period. His counterpart, goalie Marin Brodeur had more than just a rough period. He took 21 shots and allowed six of them to find the inside of the goal and was replaced by Cory Schneider at the start of the third.

Patrik Elias scored two goals in the first for New Jersey including a power-play goal assisted by Jaromir Jagr and Marek Zidlicky. Then with 16:07 gone in the first, the Devils got their last goal of the game from Travis Zajac. Dominic Moore and Marc Staal also scored for the Rangers in the first. But it was the second period when things would get ugly. The Rangers racked up four goals on Brodeur, giving them a 6-3 lead. Mats Zuccarello had two goals back-to-back, Carl Hagelin had a goal 13:53 in and Rick Nash had one late goal. To finish things off, Derek Stepan put the final goal in during the third period, giving the Rangers a 7-3 win.
