Saturday night, the New York Rangers will take the ice at the Bell Centre as they face the Montreal Canadiens.
The New York Rangers will come into Montreal well rested since their last game was on Tuesday night. They beat the New Jersey Devils 4 -3 in overtime. The overtime win was the result of a big comeback for the Rangers. The teams played to a 1 -1 tie in the 1st but New Jersey took a 2 -1 lead in the 2nd. They extended the lead to 3 – 1 early in the 3rd but the Devils couldn’t hold on. Goals in the 3rd by Chris Mueller and Rick Nash sent the game to overtime. And at 2:42 into overtime, Kevin Klein scored the game winner. The Rangers went 2 for 3 on the power play but the penalty killing unit gave up 3 New Jersey goals in their 5 power play opportunities. New York will definitely need to tighten up the defense against a Montreal team that is leading the Atlantic Division.
The Montreal Canadiens rallied back to pull out a 2 – 1 overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. Both teams went scoreless in the 1st period but Detroit scored the only goal of the 2nd to go up 1 – 0. Montreal got the tying goal from Alex Galchenyuk at 16:51 in the 3rd and that sent the game to overtime. Just 56 seconds in, David Desharnais got the game winner. The Canadiens don’t always put their best effort on the ice but they are finding ways to win. If they get New York off pace early, they could add another victory to their stats.
