In Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Los Angeles Kings were able to get the win by beating the New York Rangers 3-2 at home to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The score was close, but the Kings dominated most of the game, outhitting the Rangers 45-33 on the night and also finishing with a 43-27 shots on goal advantage.

13 minutes into the first period, the Rangers were able to take the lead when Benoit Pouliot scored his fourth goal of the postseason on an unassisted tally. The Rangers would double their lead less than two minutes later when Carl Hagelin scored a shorthanded goal, but the Kings were able to get one back a few minutes later when Kyle Clifford scored his first of the playoffs.

The last goal of regulation was scored by Kings defenseman Drew Doughty at the 6:36 mark of the second period. Clifford and Justin Williams both picked up assists on that goal.

The game-winner was scored by winger Justin Williams, who picked up a turnover by Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi and put his shot past netminder Henrik Lundqvist.

Williams and Clifford finished the game with a goal and an assist apiece for Los Angeles, while goalie Jonathan Quick ended up with a .926 save percentage in the win by stopping 25 of the 27 shots he faced.

Lundqvist had 40 saves on the night for the Rangers.
