In the second of a home and home, the New York Islanders will travel to Washington to take on the Capitals on Friday night. The Islanders are one of the hottest teams in all of the NHL; winning five straight games, including an overtime win on Wednesday. For the New York Islanders, John Taveras picked up the overtime winner. The goal was a power play; and was his 9th goal of the season. Taveras now leads the team with 21 points; including 12 assists. The Islanders are the fourth highest scoring team in the league, scoring 3 goals per game. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak has been stellar between the pipes, allowing just 2.23 goals per game.
